What is body work?
Technically, this is an umbrella term that can include, simply, any "work" done on the body by a practitioner. While chiropractic and accupuncture would fall into this as well, for example, it's important to distinguish that generally, when someone uses the term "body worker," they are not referring to these modalities, or would otherwise specify. Most of the time when someone calls themselves a bodyworker, they have been certified in massage and related techniques that focus on soft tissue and less invasive techniques to help a horse improve in one of the ways listed below:
Athletic Abilities
Healing*
Improved Range of Motion
Proprioception
Flexibility
Stability; Physical and Emotional
Overall comfort
Energy Level
And more...
*Massage and bodywork is not a treatment and should not be used as such on its own. If a horse has an injury it should be seen by a vet who can communicate with your bodyworker to help with their specific rehabilitory plans.
We work with athletes as well as the trail horses and the senior crowd - massage is beneficial to ALL horses! If you've tried body work sessions with your horse before, you know what a huge difference it can make.
We can see horses as often as weekly for the best performance and results, or set up any schedule that works for you, and can still help you see a difference in your horse's well-being and comfort.
What Does Conneqted Equine Offer Now?
Right now, Conneqted Equine offers Massage sessions that also include light stretches, muscle activations, somatic techniques for mind and body, and creating a plan for your horse between each visit to help you help your horse improve, mentally and physically. This can include exercises, assessment of equipment being used, simple massage moves you can do on your own, or laying out an exercise schedule to build fitness safely and properly. It can also mean working with your veterinarian to create the best path back from an injury or setback.
My philosophy for body work is based on the emphasis that needs to be made in taking the entire horse into consideration when looking at the body and its function. This means, the horse's history, their current envoronment, feed/feed schedule, the hooves, the teeth, the tack, the exercise, and the rider/handler(s). They all make a difference in the horse's body, and mind, and can all be addressed in a bodywork session.
What Will CE Offer in the Future?
There is already a list of 10+ courses in CE's future, including accupressure, craniosacral therapy, nerve release, and more, as well as another hoof practitioner course! Constant education is key to helping you with your horses. Hands are the only tools being offered at this time! We may add a laser or blanket in the future.
What Are Your Qualifications?
Liza is a Certified Equinology Equine Body Worker. Their certifcation process is the most rigorous and in-depth of any equine massage course available. They require a solid knowledge of musculoskeletal anatomy, a 9 day in-person course, and an Externship program that must be completed in 8 months, which includes, case studies, written reports, gait analysis, labeling sessions, and an hour long video presentation.
And more certifications are soon to follow...
Please keep in mind, as mentioned above: ONLY a lisence veterinarian can diagnose an injury or illness, and are the only ones who should be in charge of treatment. A good body worker LOVES to work with your vet, as well as farrier, and trainer as part of a TEAM!
