We offer barefoot trimming services for all horses
Philosophy
The horse's hoof is not only what your horse connects to the ground with, moves off of 24/7, and relies on for protection against all the terrain it encounters, but it is also a tool for propreoception, allowing him to experience the world beneath him and find balance and control of his body and movements. And it is one of the first places we look when assessing soundness.
If a horse can go barefoot, he should. Unfortunately we have not bred horses with good, naturally healthy feet in mind, nor have we given them an ample environment for their feet to thrive and develop as they should throughout their early years, in most cases. We are slowly developing more technology to work for us and the horse in these cases that do better than nailed-on metal, but in the meantime, it is important that all hoofcare professionals remain open-minded to finding out what is best for an individual horse at a given time, in every individual case. Right now, we only offer barefoot services for the horses can thrive that way.
Our philosphy strongly reguards every horse as unique, and every hoof should be treated as such. All hoof care professionals are in this field to help the horse(it is MUCH too hard of work to be doing it just for the money!), so whether we are the ones providing your trims, or providing body work on your horse who has another farrier or trimmer, we will always remain both honest, respectful, and open minded when discussing the well-being of your horse's hooves.
Background
Our studies largely follow the teachings of David Landreville and Pete Ramey. It is of utmost importance, however, to remain open-minded and constantly studying. There is regular dialogue with other farriers and barefoot trimmers, as well as countless books, articles, and online webinars with the most up-to-date and scientifically researched information
If you'd like to schedule a trim...
Here is our Pricing:
Regular trim: $60
Drafts: $70
Training: $60-$85
*We keep our horses on shorter trim cycles; for healthy hooves, 4-5 weeks at most, shorter for those needing corrections or that grow fast. This reflects the way the hoof should naturally wear regularly. We have found more success with keeping correct angles and in consistent soundness. We are open to discussing with you what you're most comfortable with.
If your horse isn't quite ready mentally for a full trim, we offer training for that! There will be no tying, smacking, twitching or jabbing. Using majority positive reinforcement and keeping sessions calm and as enjoyable as possible will take longer in the beginning, but will give you lasting success without the stress! Training sessions without completing a trim are $60. Training sessions that complete 2-4 hooves will be $85. All training sessions will last between 35-90 minutes, depending on the horse's comfort level.
And here is what we'll need to know about your horse:
How long have they been barefoot?
When was their last trim?
What has been their regular trim cycle recently?
What footing do they live in/exercise in?
What kind of riding/exercise do you two do?
What is their diet like?
Any soundness issues currently/in the past?
Any concerns regarding the hooves?
How do they typically do for trims? Any special needs?
We will eventually be offering a whole-horse subscription and several similar options. More information will be on our Equine Bodywork page once it is up and running, but you will have the option of a hoofcare subscription, bodywork subscription, or whole-horse subscription, with our without lessons or training. With a set monthly fee, you'll be able to receive regular care in any or all of these realms, as well as access to professional feedback between those visits-- you are free to text or email with any questions you may have regarding your horse and our related services(though if it is a physical concern that hasn't been previously addressed, we are likely to insist you consult your vet) with prompt replies to help you until we're back.
